Can your Toothpaste be Responsible for Sensitivity?
Do you experience sharp shooting pain in your teeth whenever you have something very cold or very hot or when you go out in the biting cold? The problem that you are facing is sensitivity of the teeth.
Sensitivity of the teeth is not necessarily a problem caused by bacteria as is the case with dental decay. It can be caused by a wide variety of issues that causes wear and tear of the tooth structure leading to exposure of the internal structures of the teeth. It is also seen in cases of tooth decay but here the causative is due to bacteria.
But, can your own paste be the cause of sensitivity of the teeth?
Yes! This is the stark reality that many of us do not know. It does not mean that you have to give up on brushing your teeth everyday.
While dental hygiene aids like your paste, dental floss, electric toothbrush (even your ordinary toothbrush) and your mouthwash will help you attain good oral hygiene, improper selection of these oral hygiene aids or improper usage can lead to many problems including sensitivity.

But, how can your toothpaste cause sensitivity of your teeth?
Toothpastes are designed to provide lubrication and foaming so that there will be no damage to your teeth while brushing. They also have some abrasives in them so that it will help the toothbrush to get effective cleansing action.
Some of the toothpastes have ingredients in them that have high abrasive action and can cause damage to the teeth, especially if you are in the habit of using excessive force while brushing. This damage to the teeth structure is manifested as sensitivity to hot and cold substances.
So, if you are suffering from tooth sensitivity, you should review all the hygiene aids that you are currently using and also get advice from your Dentist regarding the correct usage of all the dental hygiene aids so that it will cause no harm and provide you with the hygiene that you are looking for.
